Summary – HSE, Manager VHNA, will be responsible for the development and execution of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. This includes establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. Identification of hazards and deviations from the management system will require ability to communicate guidelines to multidisciplinary workforces. Discovery of opportunities for improving conditions and execution of safety programs will be priority, while providing leadership to safety supervision and site safety officers.
Responsibilities –
- Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Set up and Audit and Inspection program to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
- Manage and coach, Site Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors
- Audits, training and support of construction project startups on site with site safety officers.
Qualifications & requirements –
- Bachelor’s degree, Health, Safety and Environment or equivalent work experience.
- Fluent in English mandatory
- French speaking preferred
- Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess the ability to meet and interface with customers and have the capacity to work to resolve issues and accomplish tasks between internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Must be available to travel 50% of the time, and sometimes for a week at a time.

- The employee is also required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low). The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in an office environment from 4-8 hours. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; stoop, or crouch.
