Summary Statement:

 

The Field Quality Supervisor is responsible for assuring that the products being delivered to our clients meet our engineering standards, are fit for purpose and free from defects, operational problems or errors.  This is accomplished by developing a team to provide technical direction for all quality related activities at site and ensuring effective coordination between internal and external customers/suppliers during the marketing, engineering, manufacturing and installation phase of a project.

Field Quality Specialists

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Oversee the training and development of the Field Quality Specialists ensuring adequate technical and process knowledge.

Project and maintain adequate field quality staffing levels to support the business needs.

Assure compliance and effectiveness of site inspection processes and personnel including qualifications.

Assure the incorporation of the customer and Voith quality requirements into Voith’s processes and designs by overseeing the development of project specific field quality plans.

Provide cost estimates for site quality support and monitor budgets during project execution.

Review specifications, standards, drawings and/or requisitions with Engineering personnel to determine the following: Level and type of NDE required for components, Dimensional Inspection Requirements, Customer Specification compliance, Requirements for field inspection.

Assist with dispositioning nonconformances, perform root cause analysis, issue requests for corrective actions (internal & external) and track/follow-up on open items.

Supports the Head of Field Service on quality systems, procedures and process management topics.

Lead field vendor qualification, auditing, rating and reporting process to assist in determination vendor capacity and capability.

Lead field quality audits.

Participate in field Lesson Learned Meetings,

Interpret technical drawings including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning, tolerancing, GD&T symbols, etc. Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics.  Create/Maintain/Review dimensional record sheets

Audit/Review gage calibration processes, procedures, traceability, and frequency.

Verify inspection records & documentation compliance perform inspection results trend analysis

Verify implementation of nondestructive and destructive evaluation methods

Define, identify, and apply product and process control methods such as developing control plans, identifying critical control points, developing and validating work instructions, etc.

Education:

 

Bachelor Of Science Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Welding, Materials, Quality, Industrial, or related engineering field.

An advanced degree or certification in business or project management is preferred.

Portuguese and Spanish languages knowledge is a plus.

 

Special Knowledge or Skills:

 

The candidate for this position must possess the following knowledge or skills:

Basic Primary Materials Processing: Casting, Forging, and Plate Rolling

Basic Manufacturing Processes: Cutting, Forming, Welding, Grinding, Machining, Assembly

Heat Treatment and Stress Relief

Materials Testing

Interpret drawings including welding symbols and  GD&T

Dimension Inspection techniques including hard mics and 3D inspection methods.

Knowledge of NDE and Weld requirements per the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.

Fundamentals of Non-Destructive Testing NDT: VT, MT, UT, PT

Quality Management Systems

Product and Process Design

Continuous Improvement (Training in using LEAN/6-Sigma (DMAIC) process is a plus)

Prepare detailed technical reports

Computer Skills; Microsoft Office

ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification

Fluent in English

 

 

Prior Experience :

 

7 or more years of experience in heavy manufacturing or engineer-to-order manufacturing preferable experience is in power generation equipment manufacture for both turbines and generators.

 

Other Qualifications or Requirements:

 

Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communication skills. Must possess the ability to meet and interface with customers and have the capacity to work to resolve issues and accomplish tasks between internal and external customers.

 

Scope of Position:

 

• Responsible for all quality related standards, process requirements and improvement for Voith Hydro Field Service USA.

• Supervision of Field Quality Specialist.
