Supervisor II of Machining 
York, PA

 

Summary –

The Supervisor of Machining manages the daily activities associated with the manufacturing machining department. The incumbent must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast paced large machinery union manufacturing environment with the ability to adapt to changing situations.

In support of production control product scheduling, the Supervisor of Machining assigns hourly personnel, establishes individual goals, monitors performance, schedules and conducts company wide and department developmental training activities and other administrative duties. The incumbent enforces operational policies and safety procedures and administers progressive discipline.

 

Responsibilities –

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill Production Control needs at the start of each shift
  • Properly manage department performance with sufficient time devoted to making follow-up visits to your assigned reports at intervals determined adequate based on the product complexity
  • Maintain applicable skill and staffing levels for full implementation of department  productivity and utilization goals
  • Maintain tooling, fixturing inventory and storage records
  • Maintain an open and cooperative relationship with all department(s) supervisors as well as Union officials
  • Conduct process & product specific development trainings.  Seek continuous professional development to ensure your team has the skills needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Conduct yearly performance evaluation of hourly personnel and address any performance concerns
  • Responsible for the overall training of new department employees
  • Manage ADP to ensure timecards are accurate and approved for payroll in addition to managing vacation, excused absence, overtime and various other requests
  • Administer company policies and procedures.  This includes disciplinary investigations, actions, and follow-up and administration of the attendance policies.

 

 

Qualifications –

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associates degree from machining trade school or journeyman machinist papers preferred
  • Supervisory experience leading teams in a machining environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge and use of large machine and cutting tools
  • Thorough knowledge of machining technologies
  • Ability to perform shop math calculations
  • Strong motivator and communicator with excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Must be able to lead a department and meet performance metrics

 

Physical Demands -

Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.   Employees are required to talk and hear in an industrial setting (noise level is can be high at times) and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
