Senior Engineer, Mechanical

Summary –   This is the senior technical engineering position for the regional operating unit within a worldwide group of companies.  The position mission is total customer satisfaction for engineered products installed in hydroelectric power plants, as reliable, timely delivered, cost effective, safe and to engineered commitments.  The incumbent leads specialized areas of power plant engineered reliability from project technical strategy, equipment design, project design plan, and delivery and installation of power unit components. 

Responsibilities –

  • Assists in assuring that departmental and integrated engineering standards are strictly followed and executed with excellence.  Key engineering processes such as design strategies, reviews, design freezes and lesson learned, etc. are highly effective, completely fulfill purpose and requirements and are effective.
  • Lead and supervise technical product solutions and customer product decisions or problem resolutions to the satisfaction of both company and customer requirements.  Key spokesperson for the organization internally and externally for effectively presenting critical and otherwise technical matters.
  • Coordinate an engineering team to perform engineering optimizations with an integrated approach through electrical and/or mechanical studies including FEA analysis to provide innovative designs on modernization or new projects, with higher efficiency machines, uprate power output, equipment life extension, safe and reliable operation.
  • Contributes to executing and meeting both annual fiscal year goals as well as long-term goals set for engineering and the business.
  • Contributes to the engineering departments’ goal of mentoring and teaching the junior engineers through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports, Corrective Actions (CAR), and updating the Lessons Learned database.
  • Provide engineering support for sourcing, manufacturing and field operations to ensure high quality product throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Develop an engineering detail scheduling and close integration with the master scheduling for the full project with focus on the critical path to prioritize and optimize the field installation and outage duration.
  • Responsible for evaluating technical risks on both the Offer to Order (OTO) and Order to Cash (OTC) sides of the business.  This includes, but is not limited to conducting/participating in design reviews and FMEA processes.
  • Ensures compliance and improvement of the engineering standards and executed technical design guidelines. 
  • Able to work proficiently in SolidEdge CAD and SAP to create and review solid models, drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Helps to maintain a smooth integration of designs with the other engineering functions within the region.  This includes digital hydro engineering, hydraulic engineering, field engineering and manufacturing engineering.

Qualifications –

  • Degree in Engineering with advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience in an engineering environment, specifically energy/hydro power generation with a proven track record of successful project execution.

  • The employee may be required to lift objects up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and perform other tasks related to an industrial environment.
