Summary

The Project Controller is a key member of the project team and supports the Project Manager with all scheduling and financial aspects of the project including cost control, customer invoicing, financial analysis, baselining and updating of a schedule, variance analysis, recovery plans, earned value analysis, Monte Carlo risk analysis, and cash flow. The incumbent in this position will have significant interface with the Project Management organization in addition to the functional areas of Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing and Field Service.

They will interface, when needed, directly with external partners and customers. The Project Controller can overview the project execution from both high level and detailed perspectives. They will ensure tools and processes are followed and will define counter measures to ensure quality of data. They will monitor key performance indicators and take the necessary actions to ensure excellent execution of projects.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Creation, maintenance, and update of project schedules according to the contractual requirements.
  • Identify critical path, multiple float path, potential bottlenecks
  • Setup project budget and initial forecast in SAP
  • Plan cash-in schedule according to contract and initiate customer billing process with all required supporting documents
  • Monitor and control project cost structure during project execution, ensuring that actuals are within budget and charged to the correct WBS.
  • Provide early warnings for any potential risks as well as opportunities using financial analysis, earned value analysis, float utilization, resource leveling, Monte Carlo risk analysis, and capacity planning
  • Support Project Managers with customer reports, dashboards, presentations, and meetings related to financial performance, scheduling and delivery performance
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision making of Project Managers, such as make/buy, schedule crashing, etc.
  • Critically review a schedule and apply concepts of resource loading, cost loading, critical path, fast track and crashing to get an optimal time schedule
  • Support Project Manager and Commercial Manager on claim management.
  • Process change notifications in SAP to record cost deviations
  • Update budget and forecast for customer change orders
  • Perform PoCsales forecast for individual projects and monitor deviations closely
  • Ensure adherence of execution to the project schedule
  • Create and follow up on recovery plans
  • Observe and evaluate KPIs
  • Perform project related period end closing activities
  • Prepare schedules for projects in the bidding phase in coordination with Offer Project Manager and Department Heads

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Engineering preferred
  • Project and/or construction scheduling experience
  • Cost controller experience OR equivalent experience in Finance, Engineering, Purchasing/Sourcing, Manufacturing or Construction
  • Excellent analytical and organization skill
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interaction and communication skills: bilingualism (French/English) preferred
  • Advanced user qualifications in Primavera (P6), resource loading, cost loading, baseline, progress tracking
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP would be a plus)
  • Team player, effective negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Must have demonstrated successful experience and proactivity
  • Expertise in Excel and overall MS Office suite
  • Previous experience in project-business or manufacturing environment would be preferred
