Summary –

 

This position is concerned with providing the support for the Structural Analysis activities for hydraulic turbines, generators, and related products.  This means using state-of-the-art methods and computer programs to analyze the mechanical behavior of equipment designed.

 

Responsibilities –

 

  • Structural Analyses:  Using methods and computer programs to analyze the equipment designed.  This is to include:
    • Advanced mechanical and thermal stress and deflection analysis using finite element methods.
    • Vibration and natural frequency analysis.
    • Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics Analysis.
  • Provide the results of Structural Analyses in easily understood and meaningful format for the end user (Design Engineering, Customers, etc.)
  • Provides analyses and judgment for technological issues of the company as they relate to structural adequacy and reliability, consistent with Voith Design Guidelines and sound engineering practice for:
    • New or modified designs
    • Manufacturing or Field problems
    • Proposals
    • etc.
  • Contributes to short and long term objectives of Turbine/Generator Engineering for Process improvement & standardization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others to obtain effective results; to conceive, plan, direct, and direct extensive and complex engineering work.
  • Mechanical Design Engineering:  To optimize design for cost & reliability and resolve manufacturing or Field problems.
  • Hydraulic Engineering:  To evaluate design options for optimum performance and cost & reliability, and coordinate hydraulic loading conditions so that analytical models reflect reality as close as possible.
  • Marketing & Sales / Proposal Engineering:  To assist in proposals for new products or new concepts of existing designs.
  • Field Engineering:  To analyze prototype data and factor them into the analysis of new and existing products.
  • Customers & Consultants:  To present results and conclusions of analyses and to promote our know-how.


Qualifications –

 

  • Minimum of M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and entry level candidates are also considered.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the company’s products and the capability to apply basic and specialized techniques to mechanical and structural problems.  Ability to give an engineering judgment about adequacy & reliability of analyzed designs.
  • Good understanding of the stress and vibration analysis, basic knowledge of fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis and appropriate skills to work effectively with computer-aided software (CAD).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years prior experience in hydro generation or other large rotating equipment and the use of ANSYS a plus. Entry level candidates may also be considered in particular cases.
