Summary –

The BoP (Balance of Plant) design engineer provides design efforts from inception through production both in new product design and in existing product redesign.​  The Engineer I uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems. The Engineer I requires instruction, guidance and direction from others. Duties are performed under close supervision or mentorship by more experienced co-workers.

 

Responsibilities –

  • Maintain customer, job and drawing files per Engineering Department Standards.
  • Learn the methods of developing manufacturing drawings of repairs, replacement parts, etc. using customary methods and/or industry standards for machining.
  • Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the component. 
  • Prepare preliminary design proposals such as quotes.
  • Interact with mechanical personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regard to company products.
  • Perform liaison function between customers, sales group, engineering and all mechanical services operations for any related issues, problems or improvements.
  • Work with the quality department sales and others to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
  • Participate in engineering and general design review as required.
  • Prepare technical data such as standard customer reports and special reports when needed.
  • Interact with customers on engineering design and any questions/problems they may have.
  • Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company.
  • Coordinate as required with internal groups including purchasing, quality control, sales, mechanical shop, and cover production and accounting personnel.
  • Review job cost sheets and update sales order as necessary to provide accurate final sales amount for final invoice to customer.
  • Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems and progress as related to work assignments.

 

Qualifications –

 

  • Bachelors of engineering degree or a combination of equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of college degree
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task based on business need
  • Excellent time management skills
  • AUTOCAD Electrical and/or 3D design tools (SOLID EDGE) experience is a plus

 

Other Specific Responsibilities

  • Learn to search for documents, OEM drawings and resources on Share Point Site.
  • This position is for working in the Automation & Controls Engineering, with Balance of Plant Equipments (BoP) and systems required for operating Turbine & Generator in a Hydro Electrical Power Generation plant. Work activities includes system design including calculations, preparation of specifications, Bill of materials and procedures, single line and detailed circuit and layout design drawings coordination, selection of instruments and sensors, support to field installations, commissioning and troubleshooting, interface with other Engineering departments (Mechanical engineering, Automation, etc.), support to OtO and direct interface with suppliers and customers.
  • The BoP engineer works closely with the Mechanical engineering on necessary instrumentation and interconnection of the electrical cables (for power and control) or piping (for oil and air), busbars and related conduits, tray or trench or any supports and fittings necessary. A coordinated design with the mechanical engineering is part of expected work, including design review, on-site inspection, installation review, etc, in a way to contribute to the integration and efficiency of generator and turbine design.

Balance of plant equipment and systems include generator switchgear, surge protection, step-up and auxiliary transformers, AC/DC station service equipment’s, medium & high voltage equipment’s, cabling, busbars, drainage & dewatering systems, fire detection/protection systems, grounding/neutral grounding systems,  HVAC systems,  hydraulic systems, lighting, lube & high pressure oil lift systems, generator cooling, brake & jack systems,  servomotors systems, air valve systems, etc.
