Responsibilities –



  • Work closely with the Automation Lead Engineer, Plant engineering and customer engineers to determine requirements, I/O listings, etc. from a hardware standpoint.
  • Stay current regarding latest Siemens & Allen Bradley control system product offerings and work under the Lead Engineer to develop a cost effective hardware design that meets the customer’s requirement.
  • Generate detailed electronic cabinet layout and interconnection drawings and BOM’s, initially for solicitation of bids and subsequently for detailed cabinet construction.
  •  Resolve layout and wiring issues with the cabinet vendor that arise during cabinet construction.
  • Coordinate with the customer and lead Factory Acceptance Testing and develop software configurations to support this activity.
  • Provide factory and on-site engineering services to the customer to resolve issues that arise during field install.
  • Assist software engineers in resolving issues and considering configuration trade-offs that are necessitated by unique interface requirements to existing and new 3rd party electronic devices.
  • Provide on-site engineering services to assist commissioning engineers during initial system power-up and system data communications testing.
  • Represents the Voith team at customer kickoff meeting, plant walk-down and design reviews and ensures that appropriate design issues are aired and resolved.



  • Develop project specific custom software solutions for the Siemens or Allen Bradley platforms.
  • Taylor project template configurations as required meeting unique and specific requirements at each new plant.
  • Provide documentation unique for each plant to aid future system maintenance.
  • Record all variances using the approved department tools to maintain strict revision control of all software modules.
  • Work with the Software Team Leader to develop software revision control and upgrade strategies for each project.
  • Work with customer and BOP engineers to specify and develop custom software interfaces to new or existing 3rd party systems.
  • Develop applications as required to communicate data between the hydro plant control system and a remote dispatch centre.
  • Provide test software and assist Factory Acceptance Testing activity after cabinet assembly is complete.
  • Provide on-site commissioning support during initial system power-up /checkout/ subsystem communication tests.
  • Provide on-site commissioning support during generating unit outages to assist electricians in testing I/O wiring and functionality.
  • Provide on-site commissioning support to test the control system software.  Maintain the variance lists; take part in project status reporting activity (conference calls, written reports, punch list maintenance).
  • Install hardware and software on “out-of-box” computer systems to ready the systems for use as engineering stations and plant operator stations.
  • Train Customer Plant Operators in the use of the Operator Display Stations.

  • Regularly feedback market intelligence regarding the customers you are working with to the leadership and sales teams.
  • Take an active role in the development of company and regional standards, products, technology, tools and processes.
  • Be proactive in your ongoing professional development and continuous education with your supervisor working to written short term and medium term plans.
  • Identify and document technical risks and escalate issues as appropriate to the Engineering and the project management team so that Voith is not exposed to unusual risk or liability.
  • Immediately identify cost over runs and scope creep before additional work is executed. to the Project Management team so that Voith is not exposed to unknown liability.
  • Always follow Voith’s Code of Conduct and act above reproach with respect to compliance in all business relationships.  Act as a positive example and emphasize the need for full compliance with the Code of Conduct in all business relationships to the project management team.


Qualifications –


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering,(BSME or BSEE with a preference of Power Engineering or Controls)  from an accredited University.
  • Prefer 1-3 year’s experience I control system engineering.
  • EIT Qualification (Preferred)
  • Administrative abilities and demonstrated organizational discipline.
  • Analytical decision maker who is capable of making timely decisions with incomplete information.
  • Effective multitasker
  • Excellent technical writer.
  • Computer knowledge and skills: CAE Tools MS-Office, scheduling & ERP systems.
  • The job requires domestic and international travel between 10-35% of the time in an average year.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Fully fluent in written and spoken English.
