Summary:
The incumbent in this role is responsible for providing solid solutions during the proposal stage of the project. The incumbent will engage multi engineering disciplines to create cost effective technical proposals. Knowledge and understanding of hydro power units and the hydro business is an asset. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing/updating designs for customer proposals (OTO)
  • Contributing to the Engineering team’s objectives for Process Improvement and Standardization 
  • Participating in proposals (OTO) to prepare design proposals
  • Technical project leadership from solicitation to contract award
  • Define sourcing and manufacturing strategies starting with OTO plan at the beginning of the project
  • Operating CAD/CAE equipment to complete work assignments
  • Collaborating to refine strategies for manufacturing, sourcing, logistics and installation
  • Performing necessary design calculations (as required) by employing common engineering principles and using hand calculations, proprietary Voith design tools
  • Creating 3D solid models of components and assemblies
  • Creating 2D drawings best suited for the manufacturing methods (independently or by collaborating with designers
  • Reviewing and release engineering documents
  • Searches for and identifies OEM drawings in the archive and customer supplied drawing files
  • Participating in and leading design reviews
  • Perform site assessment of the equipment to collect operational data
  • Participates in the creation of design schedules for project assignments
  • Keeping supervisors abreast of progress on assigned work (milestones reached, workload, challenges, and delays)
  • Engaging vendors, manufacturing personnel, and field service personnel in defining manufacturing, installation, design solutions that reduce cost and risk 
  • Supporting the quality department with continuous improvement and problem solving activities
  • Preparing and completing technical risk reports/forms when needed. Perform FMEA when required
  • Communicating with customers regarding their engineering design-related questions and concerns
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree 
  • 3-5 years of work experience in with a proven track record of successful project execution
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task based on business needs
  • Excellent time management skills
