The incumbent in this position will provide leadership and consultation in welding and production matters. Responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment and procedures to improve efficiency and utilization of personnel and assets. Plans for the cost effective utilization of labor, materials and consumables. Applies knowledge of material science to recommend Engineering and Manufacturing changes to attain cost effective designs and processes. Assures compliance with approved methods and standards. Relies on experience, knowledge and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and develops team with a focus on improving area KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned area and supervise workshop staff
  • Provide welding and metallurgical support to Manufacturing, Engineering & the Field
  • Plan, implement and support projects in line with customer demand
  • Plan and implement laser welding, assembly and balancing processes
  • Monitor area specific KPIs such as safety, weld reject rates, weld deposition/operating efficiencies on key projects and recommend appropriate actions as necessary
  • Ensure employees are complying with company policies, specifically those pertaining to plant safety and work rules, along with leading and maintaining HSE standards
  • Plan shop workload and direct assembly and quality technicians ensuring quality of workmanship
  • Daily submittal of time sheets and completed shop orders
  • Ensure that tools and supplies are available for anticipated workload and oversee equipment maintenance schedules by executing MROs – Maintenance, Repairs and Operations in assigned area
  • Liaison between shop, technical support and sales
  • Implement and monitor standards for area together with process excellence function
  • Promote workshop development (know-how, equipment, portfolio)

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Five years of experience in welding or
  • College degree in engineering technology, engineering, or physical science
  • Thorough knowledge of welding and cutting processes, welding metallurgy
  • Familiar with AWS, International, DIN, ISO standards
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Prior experience with leadership desired but not required
  • IATF experience desirable but not required
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment
  • Knowledge and experience of shop practices and equipment maintenance
  • Good oral and written communication ability along with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of information systems (Navision, MS Office, MS Outlook)
