Summary – We are seeking a Buyer to support our North American Hydro division in York, PA.  In this position the buyer will procure fabrication and machining commodities for Voith Hydro North America.  The position also involves ongoing communication with suppliers as well as internal functional departments.  The ideal candidate will possess strong relationship-building skills in addition to his/her technical knowledge and negotiating skills.

 

Responsibilities –

  • Identify and select qualified vendors based on business requirements and introduce new/alternative suppliers as required
  • Develop purchasing specifications by analyzing complex technical data, design, prints and a wide variety of other manufacturing and quality requirements, consulting with department or team members as necessary to assure correct purchasing and delivery requirements
  • Ability to determine manufacturability and value of engineered-designed components
  • Direct knowledge and understanding of sourcing of welded fabrications and machines parts
  • Manage all aspects pertaining to RFQ’s in the OTO and OTC phase of a project
  • Purchase and manage all aspects of the assigned commodities at best quality in the most cost efficient manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develop collaborative relationships / strategic alliances with suppliers to promote quality improvement and cost reductions
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-directed and detail-oriented with the desire to solve problems
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude

 

Qualifications –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Experience in SAP software
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written); French is a plus
  • 1 - 5 years of experience in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

 

Physical Demands –

Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.  This position may require travel, both domestic and international.
