Head of HSE

Summary –  Ensures the fulfillment and implementation of regulatory requirements—such as health, safety, and environmental policies and relevant standards/norms (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)—in the region by continuously monitoring, assessing, and supporting all operations to enhance the organization’s HSE Management System and foster a strong safety culture.

 

Responsibilities –

 

  • Oversee the implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies across all operations within a region, ensuring compliance with global standards and local regulations while fostering a strong safety culture
  • Support activities to standardize & harmonize overall company processes, procedures, guidelines and standards including HSE KPIs definition, reports and documents.
  • Deploy global HSE strategies and adapt them to regional & local regulatory requirements and operational contexts under consideration of Voith Hydro requirements
  • Ensure adequate HSE resources (staff, tools, budget, competency) are in place at all regional sites and locations
  • Supports internal audit processes, including audits execution, reports & actions follow up. Support external audit process.
  • Manage hazardous materials and related processes aiming to reduce health and environmental risks.
  • Based on regular monitoring of defined KPIs & metrics, elaborates support the Yearly Management Review.
  • Leads and supports:
    • Safety instructions
    • Operational risks and hazard identification and mitigation in the region
    • Incident analysis, reporting and prevention in a timely manner.
    • HSE inspections
  • Train relevant employees on HSE methods and standards to sustain requirements and sustain proficiency
  • Define setup to ensure waste, emissions, and resource consumption is managed
  • Support HSE and Sustainability regular meetings to follow up overall status & progress, collect feedback, provide support and steer actions towards targets achievement and continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular reporting on sustainability-related activities.

 

Qualifications –

  • Degree in Health and Safety-, environment fulfilling local legal requirements
  • Relevant work experience in Quality Management / HSE Management, incl. safety & environmental risk assessments
  • Well-founded knowledge of HSE relevant laws, regulations, standards, authorities’ requirements
  • Demonstrating experience in auditing (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
  • Experience in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives to promote environmental, social, and economic responsibility
  • Practical knowledge in using IT-tools i.e.: SharePoint, SAP, MS Office, Quentic or other relevant HSE IT-tool, database tracking programs
  • Management and communication skills (incl. but not limited to interpersonal, listening, verbal, written, didactic and presentation) to enhance teamwork and ownership
  • English fluent as well as willingness for worldwide travel
  • Analytical expertise as well as result-oriented, solution-driven (pragmatic) and customer-oriented working principle
  • Experience and willingness in leading cross-functional teams

 

 

Physical Demands –

Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are often required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.   Employees are required to talk and hear in an industrial setting (noise level can be high at times) and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
