Condition Monitoring Specialist III

Summary – We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the field of condition monitoring for hydropower systems. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in hydropower engineering, with a strong specialization in vibration analysis and acoustics. The incumbent in this role is responsible for service support and execution of digital and automation projects in North America. This role is responsible for successfully executing standalone digital and automation service projects. Condition Monitoring expert, digital & automation is tasked with design, factory testing and commissioning of projects on time as well as to generate opportunities to grow the Voith Service Business in North America. This role also works with key local stakeholders to provide best in class service experience to the Voith customer base.
Responsibilities –
- Conduct customer visits as needed to generate growth
- Support sales and marketing of new services and products
- Grow customer relationships.
- Preparing/updating designs for customer projects
- Contributing to the Engineering team’s objectives for Process Improvement and Standardization
- Participating in proposals (OTO) to prepare preliminary design proposals.
- Operating CAD/CAE equipment to complete work assignments.
- Searches for and identifies OEM drawings in the archive and customer supplied drawing files.
- Using SAP to create BoMs (Bill of Materials) best suited for the manufacturing, sourcing, logistics and installation strategy.
- Participating in design reviews.
- Preparing design changes and processing change notifications.
- Supporting the disposition of non-conforming materials, machined/fabricated components and assemblies, and installed/tested assemblies as to adequacy for use.
- Understanding and following design schedules for project assignments.
- Keeping supervisors abreast of progress on assigned work (milestones reached, workload, challenges, and delays).
- Engaging vendors, manufacturing personnel, and field service personnel in defining manufacturing, installation, design solutions that reduce cost and risk.
- Supporting the quality department with continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
- Assisting Test Engineers during start-up and commissioning. Evaluating test results and checking on guaranteed values.
- Preparing and completing technical data reports/forms when needed.
- Communicating with customers regarding their engineering design-related questions and concerns.
- Support System engineering for standalone and digital service projects.
- Perform detailed engineering for standalone and digital service projects.
- Perform field service on sites to perform commissioning of service projects.
- Manage on site resource and contractor supplier scheduling.
- Responsible for project profitability.
- Working with customers to obtain necessary machine information for application development.
- Providing product training and supporting technical service.
- Assisting with trial planning, customer proposals, trial evaluation and Continuous Improvement estimation and documentation.
- Perform detailed analysis of machinery vibration data and control system data to identify issues and predict potential failures in operating assets.
- Develop, implement, and maintain condition monitoring programs and reliability practices for hydropower equipment.
- Assess machinery health through data collection and analysis, define monitoring parameters, and establish alarm thresholds for early fault detection.
- Support engineering teams with troubleshooting, root-cause failure analysis (RCFA), and the development of diagnostic algorithms.
- Create, review, and update technical documentation and procedures related to condition-based maintenance (CBM).
- Contribute to commissioning activities and broader initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability and operational performance.
Qualifications –
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in condition monitoring and vibration analytics. ISO CAT III Vibration Certification is a plus. (CAT II certification will also be considered)
- Self-starting individual who can communicate with a wide variety of resources, both internally and externally.
- Strong service mindset.
- Perform detailed analysis of machinery vibration data and control system data to identify issues and predict potential failures in operating assets.
- Develop, implement, and maintain condition monitoring programs and reliability practices for hydropower equipment.
- Assess machinery health through data collection and analysis, define monitoring parameters, and establish alarm thresholds for early fault detection.

- Ability to travel up to 60% to various customer/project sites.
Physical Demands –
Employees in this position are regularly required to walk, stand, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear and regularly required to lift 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift to 50 pounds. This position does require frequent travel.
