Supervisor of Assembly

Position Summary

The Assembly Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Assembly Department during the third shift. This role ensures a safe, productive, and quality-focused work environment by directing hourly employees, establishing production priorities, managing workflow, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor is accountable for meeting production schedules, maintaining quality standards, and administering company policies in a union manufacturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Supervise daily assembly operations to achieve production schedules, quality standards, and customer delivery commitments.
  • Assign, schedule, and coordinate hourly employees to support production priorities and changing manufacturing requirements.
  • Establish daily production goals, staffing plans, and workflow to maximize productivity, efficiency, and resource utilization.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team through effective communication, training, performance management, and employee engagement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to support employee growth and development.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Administer company policies, attendance programs, corrective action, and progressive discipline in accordance with company procedures and the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Foster positive working relationships with union employees and union leadership while promoting a collaborative and respectful work environment.
  • Partner with Engineering, Planning, Quality, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Environmental Health & Safety to resolve production issues and improve operational performance.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between shifts to support seamless production operations.
  • Maintain accurate employee timekeeping records and production reporting using Dayforce and the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support operational excellence through effective problem-solving, decision-making, and employee accountability.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Two to five years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Previous experience supervising employees in a union environment is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly processes, manufacturing equipment, production systems, and workflow management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop employees while fostering a positive and accountable team culture.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing reporting systems, ERP/MES platforms, and timekeeping systems such as Dayforce.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
