Summary – In this position, the Engineering Manager is responsible for all aspects of engineering in servicing and repairing paper machine rolls. Additionally this position manages multiple projects and allocate resources effectively aligning with the demands of the business and customers. To foster a cooperative relationship with stakeholders within the region, in supporting regional and local strategies, to meet financial goals and targets.

Responsibilities –

  • Manage, lead and coach the engineering team to achieve site and departmental objectives and goal
  • Motivate and lead direct reports, communicate targets, goals and expectations to meet site strategy and budget
  • Provide technical recommendations and support, both to internal and external customers
  • Investigate problems, and lead in facilitating recommendations for improvements to ensure highest level of all quality throughout product offering and services provided
  • Evaluate workloads within department to ensure appropriate facilitation of job tasks and work load in order to optimize departmental efficiency. Delegates tasks accordingly.
  • Continuously evaluates processes and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement through waste reduction and efficiency gain
  • Communicates project details and timelines with production teams and other necessary stakeholders
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining necessary project reports and results

Manage and lead department

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and problem solve effectively
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, strong people person in order to develop and work with stakeholders at all levels inside the business and external customers
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Applies time management techniques on a daily basis to accomplish tasks

Communication and problem solving

  • Develops short term as well as long term action plans and present to customers
  • Collaborates with other technical resources as needed to gain required knowledge to resolve issues.
  • Maintains an open minded perspective during problem solving exercises
  • Inspects and investigates using analytical thought processes to solve problems
  • Can function autonomously and as a team member as the situation requires

Qualifications –

  • Knowledge of paper machine industry is a plus but not required
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Proven leader with previous experience of managing others
  • Project management experience
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel & Word.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, entrepreneurial skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Lean Management, Six Sigma and/or Operational Excellence training preferred.

Physical Demands -

Employees in this position are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand.  He or she is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE are required in designated areas.
