Summary: The Grinder Operator/Drill Machine Operator role at Voith involves setting up, operating, and maintaining large roll grinders for various types of rolls. The operator must adhere to safety and quality standards, perform inspections, and manage heavy loads using an overhead crane. Experience in roll grinding and handling industrial equipment is preferred, though trainees may be considered. The position requires manual lifting, potential shift work, and a willingness to learn other operational tasks. A high school diploma is preferred but not mandatory if offset by relevant experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and maintain large roll grinder used to grind all types of rubber, polyurethane, resin covered or steel large diameter paper machine rolls
  • Perform all job requirements according to procedures as outlined in the VOITH Quality Manual, Company Procedures, and Work Instructions 
  • Performs all inspection functions as required by work instructions 
  • Must be familiar with grinder operation and tooling.
  • Set up, operate and maintain 156 spindle gang drill designed to drill holes in large diameter paper machine rolls covered with natural and synthetic rubbers, polyurethane and resin.
  • Identify and verify hole patterns
  • Must be familiar with CNC machine operations
  • Should have experience in lifting and moving heavy loads with an overhead crane.
  • Should have experience in setups used in grinding practices on large equipment.

  • Display a good attitude conducive to a shop environment.
  • Perform required job functions in a safe and efficient manner and promoting Quality per Voith Standards.   
  • Must be dependable regarding attendance.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • Must be willing to learn and perform other tasks of operation as required
  • Shift work may be required.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Some manual lifting (up to 50 lbs)
  • Experience with the following equipment hand tools:
    • Large roll grinders
    • SAFOP Drill Matic 156 CNC Gang Drill with Fanuc controls
    • 80 Ton overhead crane
    • Forklift truck
    • Hand truck
    • Hand tools
  • Experienced operator preferred with background in Paper Mill roll grinding.
  • Experienced operator with background in roll grinding other than paper mill rolls.
  • Past operational experience on other similar industrial equipment.
  • A trainee may be considered if they exhibit the requirements as detailed under general responsibilities
  • High School Diploma preferred but not required if the experience level, determined by Voith management, offsets this requirement.
