The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to develop our customer base and establish long term solid relationships with our customers.  He/she uses networking, cold calling, presentations or other means to generate interest from existing and potential clients. He/she plans persuasive approaches and presentations to convince potential clients to do business with the company. He/she must develop a rapport with existing and new clients, and estimates targets for sales and provides support that will continually improve the relationships. He/she grows and retains existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients. The Business Development Manager works with all levels to senior level of management and of technical staff. He/she establishes strategy for each customer consistent with the company objectives and philosophy. It is his/her responsibility to develop the pipeline of new business coming in to the company from his/her territory. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services the company can provide, and of the company’s competitors. Additional duties of the


Business Development Manager can be summarized as follows:

  • Works with teams to develop proposals that address to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives and includes company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
  • Participates in determining market levels and pricing the solution/service.
  • Handles objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
  • Ensures that information is accurately and timely entered and managed within the company’s sales management system.
  • Uses a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
  • Reports to Head of Business Development.
  • Travelling is an important part of this position.
  • Territory may include Atlantic Canada and/or Prairie provinces depending on where prospective candidate resides



  • 10 years of relevant work experience plus 5 years in sales engineering environment, preferably in energy/hydro power generation
  • Science or engineering undergraduate degree combined with business training and appropriate experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Excellent communication skills required in the territory (EN-ON, FR/EN- Est Can)
