Service Application & Project Engineer 
Mississauga, ON

 

 

Summary:

The Service Application & Project Engineer develops engineering design solutions from project inception through execution. Working with minimal supervision and receiving mentorship from more experienced colleagues, the role applies established procedures, instructions, and guidance to address engineering service issues. The A&P Engineer may be assigned as the lead engineer on projects and can deliver component-engineering solutions for rehabilitation projects with little to no direct supervision.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, serving as the main engineering contact for customers and internal teams, ensuring compliance with industry and Voith standards.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation, including repair methods, specifications, drawings, quality and condition assessment reports
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-site technical issues, supporting planning, maintenance, refurbishment, and commissioning activities while making fast, informed decisions. Taking an active role in troubleshooting and root cause analysis supporting Chief Service Engineer.
  • Ensure alignment of proposed solutions with customer needs and quality standards
  • Support proposal development with Sales and Service Managers, contributing to technical scope, cost, and schedule to ensure accurate, customer-aligned offers.
  • Actively manage engineering interfaces, including coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, and Voith’s internal engineering network, and take ownership of NCRs and root cause analyses
  • Support business development and local capability building, fostering customer relationships, mentoring team members, and helping develop tools, systems, and procedures
  • Preparing/updating designs for customer projects (OTC).
  • Contributing to the Engineering team’s objectives for Process Improvement and Standardization
  • Participating in proposals (OTO) to prepare preliminary design proposals.
  • Technical project leadership from contract award through project completion.
  • Define sourcing and manufacturing strategies starting with OTO plan at the beginning of the project.
  • Operating CAD/CAE equipment to complete work assignments.
  • Collaborating to refine strategies for manufacturing, sourcing, logistics and installation.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Engineering degree
  • Effective teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task based on business needs
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Typically at least 7 to 10 years of work experience in a function related to the hydro power industry with a proven track record of successful project execution.

  • The employee is also required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low). The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in an office environment from 4-8 hours. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; stoop, or crouch.
  • The vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to lift objects up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and perform other tasks related to an industrial environment.
  • The job may require travel.
