Summary

The Application Engineer provides technical sales support and product selection, product pricing, and quotation support for our industry products used in various industrial mechanical power transmission applications. This position requires a solid understanding of primary mechanical power transmission engineering design and application knowledge for electro-mechanical drive systems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customers’ technical specifications for drive components in industrial drive applications.
  • Make initial product selections which meet the customer drive specifications using Voith selection and pricing tools.
  • Communicate with external Voith sales staff and product sales support staff (Germany) to confirm selections, generate pricing & quotes (price indication quotes as well as detailed firm quotes).
  • Communicate with Voith Germany product groups and other Voith worldwide marketing companies (many international projects involve input from multiple Voith resources).
  • Support our outside sales staff with technical support during the OTO (Opportunity to Offer) phase as well as some customer visitation to support the technical scope during the OTC (Order to Cash) phase.
  • Investigating and reporting on warranty cases.
  • National and International travel required < 10% of the time depending on demand.  Primary travel would include Germany, USA, and Mexico.
  • Maintain customer, job and drawing files per Engineering Department Standards.
  • Participate in engineering and general design review meetings with customer as required.
  • Interact with customers on engineering design and any questions/problems they may have.
  • Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company as part of the overall drive package (heat exchanger, connection couplings, base frames, etc).
  • Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of engineering degree from four-year accredited college or university 
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant Product Management, Application Engineering and/or Service experience
  • Experience in the drive system design & engineering with regards to the following:
    • High speed rotating equipment (general)
    • Centrifugal compressors
    • Centrifugal pumps & fans
    • Conveyors and crushers (material handling applications)
    • Air-to-Oil and Water-to-Oil heat exchangers will be a plus
    • Some experience with CAD software will be a plus (this is not a design engineering position, but the ability to view and use CAD software will be beneficial)
  • A general understanding of API standards for gear units and lube oil systems will be a plus
  • Demonstrate effective communication & collaboration teamwork skills
  • Ability to multi-task based on business need
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Hybrid work possible; some work in the Houston office is expected
