This is an Engineering Student/Intern opportunity for Summer 2021 (possibly earlier if selected candidate has availability).  Position is located at our Voith Paper location in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada.



Area of Study: Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Must currently be attending a college or university and filling this position as an approved or eligible internship thru the college (earning credits toward degree requirements)

Languages: French and English - Proficiency in oral and written communicaiton with both languages is preferred.


Focus of Engineering Internship - OPEX, ISO Certification and Safety – QA projects

The main portion of the job will be to assist Quality & Operations Excellence Coordinator with implementation of ISO standards, continuous improvements and Safety procedures, through but not limited to:

  • Introduction to daily/weekly tasks and monthly reporting preparation
  • Develop, design and lead standalone projects and processes toward ISO certification and general shop improvements
  • Maintain safety requirements, regulations and procedures
  • Participate in Quality and Safety investigations, and be part of related corrective actions
  • Support general forms automation (VBA skills is an asset)
  • And contribute to Engineering department’s ongoing projects as needed/desired:


Specific tasks/projects:

Bill of Material Development (low) – ADDITIONAL PART B & C (Parts extraction)
To research old job files to extract parts and material purchased on that job to create Bill of Materials for specific rolls. Review old drawing and organize them in our MRP JDE system.

Hydraulic Roll guideline implementation (medium) – IN PROGRESS

Finish what previous summer student project and foremost establish clear guidelines for CC rolls and some unique swim rolls (big seals) when doing dynamic tests. Simple chart needed with result range needed and procedure.


Head Fit and Torques Standardization (medium) – PART B Standardization Process and verification through TMS (Torque management system)

Head fit standardization in 3-4 weeks (which includes torque), we would hope to write directly in JDE the value of Head fits, bolt specs and torque for the first 25 suction rolls bigger than 36-40" in diameters of each plants.

Waisted bolts inventory evaluation and clarification of cost to make them.


Dynamic Balancing Machine (medium) –PART B WIP CHECK\PART C VIBRATION ANALYSIS

Review of current machine design, calculate and design upgrade motor and source components for upgrade of dynamic balance machine.  Including WIP check and vibration analysis  – SKF Pulse Check Machine. Develop clear process and document complete process. Research alternative vibration units that can be setup for measurements on roll housings.


CCM and Eform (VBA Code) (high)

To determine root cause of why CMM is giving us discrepancies between machinist using micrometers and CMM.

Determine ideal setup and\or determine which common measurement we should use the CMM to gather accurate measurements. Develop and implement new procedure.


Pricebook – Update with TDC (Total Direct Cost, analysis) calculator (high)

To identify most common repairs and develop price calculator with cost. Extraction of data from BI and JDE needed to determine cost.


ERP Standardization of text (i.e.: disclaimers)

Develop new template for all standard text with most current verbiage.


Simplified Yield Stress formula for all shaft designs (high)

Develop simplified formula for all shaft designs that can be used on shafts instead of FEA analysis
