In Canada, our plant in Hawkesbury operates since 1985, where our teams perform the mechanical maintenance, and the manufacturing of roll covers for the paper machine rolls. These steel rolls, that weigh as much as 50 tons, are of very high precision to be used for papermaking. We are currently looking to fill the position of:

Machinist  
Hawkesbury, Ontario

Under general direction of the Roll Servicing Supervisor, the incumbent will investigate, evaluate, and perform the necessary work to set up and operate machine shop equipment to repair, assist or fabricate in all aspects of rolls and roll repair or other specified equipment or materials.

DUTIES AND TASKS

• Set up and operate to prescribed tolerances engine lathes and milling, grinding, drilling, sawing and boring machines, rotary tables.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, operation and product related charts and tables and selects mechanical measuring and checking and layout tool and devices.
• Performs measuring, checking and layout operations and selects work piece materials and the required cutting tools and abrasives for metal removing operations.
• Applies knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
• Computes dimensions and tolerances and prepares working sketches from general descriptions and tolerance and by examining parts and their mating surfaces.
• May be required to operate assembled or repaired mechanisms to test performance.
• Head fits – checks concentricity of shell and head, taper and verify interference is according to specifications.
• Basic welding arc and acetylene-oxygen is required.
• Fabricate jigs and fixtures.
• Fabricate dummy head or accessories for rolls.
• Direct apprentices under supervision of machine shop supervisor when and where applicable.
• Metalize, using electrochemical or arc spray metalizing equipment.
• Other duties as specified.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Licensed or Apprentice Machinist
• Proficiency in French, functional spoken and written English
• Available for rotating shifts (day and evening)
• As part of our hiring process, we require a pre-hire medical examination

• Permanent, full-time position
• Journeyperson entry wage: 27,39$/hour
• Lead Hand, Trainer and Pay For Knowledge premiums
• Apprentice entry wage: 25,73$/hour. Premiums offered for apprentices who have completed 2000 and 4000 hours of apprenticeship.
• Day shift is from 7am – 3pm and evening shift is from 3pm to 11pm.
