R&D Engineering Intern
Florence, MS
Summary:
The R&D Engineering Intern will be assigned to the R&D Manager at our Structured Tissue Forming Fabrics factory in Florence, MS, where we produce industrial textile belts for the papermaking industry.
The intern will help in the Research and Development (R&D) Product Development process, working with the development and improvement of our products, and assisting in developing intellectual properties for the future through new and disruptive technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in R&D activities such as the qualification and modification of existing products on different manufacturing equipment.
- These modifications can be through the evaluation of new materials and weave patterns, as well as employing new technologies to further enhance our products.
- Document project work, and keep all pertinent documentation properly filed out and updated.
- As needed, assist in the evaluation of our woven fabric products by performing quality tests in a laboratory environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Willingness to take our safety training program and to follow site specific health and safety rules and instructions. This to ensure the personal safety of the intern and the safety and wellbeing of colleagues at work.
- Proficient undergraduate level verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Must have analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing and able to learn on-the-job tasks, plus supervisory skills where needed.
- Ability to prioritize allocated tasks (with support of supervisor) and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, MiniTab and must be willing to learn our in-house fabric specific software.
Education and Experience:
- Be on a course of study for Associates, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Textiles, Engineering (Chemical, Paper Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics), Process and/or Quality Engineering.
Physical Requirements:
- There will be a need to work in office, laboratory and factory floor locations, so a certain degree of mobility is needed.
- There may be need to visit clients paper making sites with our forming fabric application engineers and this will require a higher degree of mobility.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
- Must have manual dexterity in order to assemble products or machines as directed.
- Must wear gloves or hand protection when cutting fabrics and ear protection around looms or in other noisy environments.
