Summary – 

This is the senior engineering management position for the regional operating unit within a worldwide group of companies.  Manage multidiscipline engineering teams engaged in the completion of all required work necessary to manufacture, supply, construct, and commission hydroelectric power plant components and systems to meet customer requirements and to initiate improvements to the products. Provides supervision and mentorship to engineers and team members in the department and gives guidance to solve routine engineering design problems.  The position mission is total customer satisfaction for engineered products installed in hydroelectric power plants, as reliable, timely delivered, cost effective, safe, and to defined engineered standards. The incumbent holds accountability for engineering safety, quality, schedule adherence, reliability, technical, project and product solution success often coordinated throughout the global network of company operating units and corporate engineering.  
 
Direct management and supervision of multi-discipline engineering teams engaged in engineering of Automation and Balance of Plant products and systems.
 
Responsibilities – 

  • Manages multiple engineering teams and disciplines, including Automation, BoPe, and BoPm.
  • Develop engineering detailed plans, schedules and hours estimates in Offer to Order (OTO) to be implemented in the Order to Cash (OTC) phase.
  • Assists in maintaining an engineering organization capable of fulfilling the following responsibilities:
    • Safe and reliable engineering deliverables related to automation and balance of plant functions.
    • Effective and timely contract designs (layouts, calculations, etc.) 
    • Assists in training and development of engineering resources to provide world-class and value focused hydroelectric solutions.
    • Provides deliverables and support for the commissioning and operation of hydro projects (e.g., Procedures, Manuals, Field Testing, etc.).
  • Assures that departmental and integrated engineering standards are strictly followed and executed with excellence.  Key engineering processes such as design strategies, reviews, design freezes and lesson learned, etc. are highly effective, completely fulfill purpose and requirements and provide ongoing value to the business.
  • Is a key spokesperson for the organization internally and externally to effectively present critical technical matters.
  • Coordinate an engineering team to perform engineering optimizations with an integrated approach to provide innovative designs on modernization or new projects, with higher efficiency machines, uprate power output, equipment life extension, safe and reliable operation.
  • Contributes to executing and meeting both annual fiscal year goals as well as long-term goals set for engineering and the business.
  • Contributes to the engineering department’s goal of mentoring and teaching the engineers through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports, Corrective Actions (CAR), and updating the Lessons Learned database. 
  • Provide engineering support for OTO, sourcing, manufacturing and field operations to ensure high quality product throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Responsible for evaluating technical risks on both the OTO and OTC sides of the business.  This includes but is not limited to conducting/participating in design reviews and FMEA processes. 
  • Responsible for compliance and improvement of the engineering standards and executed technical design guidelines.  Ensures total consistency and compatibility with the overall hydro division manual and guidelines.

Education and Experience –  

  • Degree in Engineering with advanced degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience in Automation and/or Balance of Plant engineering environment, specifically energy/hydro power generation with a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience as an engineering lead, supervisor, or manager.

 

Physical Requirements – 

  • The employee is also required to talk and/or hear in an office setting (noise level is low). The employee is frequently required to stand and walk in an office environment from 4-8 hours. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; stoop, or crouch.
  • The vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to lift objects up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and perform other
    tasks related to an industrial environment.
  • The job may require travel.
