We are currently recruiting for a Safety, Health & Environment Apprentice to join the Safety, Health and Environmental team based in Croydon from August 2026 onwards. This is a new role and the successful applicant will report directly to the UK HSE Expert & Facilities Manager and will be responsible for assisting him in overseeing Safety, Health & Environmental matters at our very busy Croydon site.

Apprentice HSE

 

The HSE apprentice will report directly to the UK HSE Expert & Facilities Manager and will be responsible for assisting him in overseeing Safety, Health & Environmental matters on site.

The HSE Apprentice will assist in maintaining a safe working environment. This includes supporting risk assessments, inspections, and training, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures at site .  The Apprentice will learn to identify hazards, investigate accidents, and maintain records while gaining hands-on practical experience and theoretical knowledge.

This is a full-time two-year apprenticeship (Fixed Term Contract) working towards the Level 3 SHE Technician Apprenticeship.

Upon completion, learners will be eligible to apply for TechIOSH membership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Training will be delivered through a combination of:

•             Workplace learning and on-the-job training.

•             Online support with the training provider.

•             Coaching and mentoring from experienced colleagues.

 

The Role

You will be responsible for supporting the following:

• Maintaining, updating, and creating standard operating procedures and assisting in the implementation of continuous improvement safety projects.

• Regular reviews of risk assessments for work equipment and operations.

• Ensuring all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements are followed through.

• Conducting health and safety inspections, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, area inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.

• Managing and delivering HSE training.

• Assisting in carrying out site safety audits.

• Creating & delivering health & safety campaigns.

 

In addition, as an apprentice you will be required to:

• Ensure your apprenticeship course material is completed on time and attend all sessions at the agreed intervals.

• Attend additional training where required.

• Perform any other duties deemed necessary to meet the apprenticeship standard and improve your skills and knowledge.

• Staying informed about changes in health and safety legislation and best practices.

 

Qualifications

GSCE English and Maths - Grade 3/D and above minimum is mandatory for applicants, together with 4 other GCSE's at Grade 3/D and above.

All applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK already.  Applicants must demonstrate a real interest in working in a Health & Safety and Environmental role within an engineering environment.

• Ability to learn and adapt: Health and safety regulations and practices are constantly evolving, so apprentices need to be adaptable and willing to learn

 

Learning And Development

• On-the-job training: Gaining practical experience under the guidance of a qualified health and safety professional.

• Formal training: Completing relevant qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Safety, Health & Environment which will allow the individual to achieve technical membership of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

• Mentorship: Receiving guidance and support from experienced colleagues.
