JOB PROFILE SUMMARY

The Technical Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the Paper Machine/Fiber Systems Spare Parts Departments and the Supply Chain Management Group. 
This position also provides additional support to the Service Dept. and the P&S Sales force.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify spare parts for customer requests using Voith documentation and legacy databases.
  • Provide technical support for the other departments in the P&S Division.
  • Determine the best source for purchased and manufactured parts using local and international suppliers.
  • Estimate spare part costs to achieve quick quote turnaround.
  • Reading and interpreting manufacturing drawings.
  • Search and create item numbers in SAP for new components.
  • Create Bill of Materials for assemblies and weldments.
  • Provide verbal and written technical support for customers, vendors and Voith manufacturing/quality control departments.
  • Create marked-up drawings for customers to assist with the proper identification of requested parts.         
  • Identify domestic equivalents for foreign materials. 
  • Clarify drawing translations and confirm approval drawing requests.
  • Manage spare part projects and warranty issues.
  • Potential travel to customers on an extremely limited basis to provide technical support.

SUCCESS FACTORS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

  • Proficient in the use of computers utilizing Windows based programs as well as being able to learn and utilize the SAP and AS400 BPCS operating systems and other legacy systems that are necessary for everyday work requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with good customer relation skills.
  • Having the necessary organizational skills for meeting deadlines, working under urgent timelines and performing in a multitasking environment.
  • Ability to operate independent of daily direction, i.e. "seeing what needs to be done and doing it." includes working extra hours if necessary.
  • High attention to detail.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor or Associates degree in industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering (or equivalent practical experience). Preferably with a minimum of two to three years of experience in the pulp and paper industry or in a manufacturing environment.
  • A good mechanical aptitude with the ability to read mechanical drawings and manufacturing bills of materials.
  • Excellent computer and math skills in addition to verbal and written communication skills

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • A college level degree, technical school associate degree, or its equivalent in paper science,  industrial, manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

 

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION PREFERRED

  • Paper mill experience in maintenance or planning/scheduling is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/machining environment is a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
