Sourcing Manager I  
Appleton, WI

 

Summary – Purchases materials, equipment, supplies and services for manufacturing of a specialized or complex nature in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures, based on assigned VOITH Material codes/assigned workload. Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions, investigates and develops sources of supplies, prepares bid specifications, issues bid requests and reviews quotations. Interprets purchasing procedures to departments and vendors, as a specialist in assigned material categories, which require a degree of technical/manufacturing knowledge.

 

Responsibilities –

  • Processes difficult and unique purchasing transactions according to state and federal statutes, policies established by the Wisconsin contract law and institutional policies and procedures. 
  • Examines and analyzes departmental purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information; contacts department or initiator to clarify or complete information; determines method to process requisition based on dollar amount, timeliness required, existing open contracts, and/or competitive bidding. 
  • Identifies and selects vendor to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality and delivery date and places orders. 
  • Identifies requesting department’s needs and develops and refines specifications for commodities, supplies or equipment.
  • Interviews sales representatives to develop new sources of technical supplies.
  • Interprets and communicates purchasing procedures to departments; assists departments in initiating requisitions and orders, and solves problems with orders.
  • Writes and distributes complex and technical bid invitations or requests for proposals; receives and analyzes bids, quotes, proposals, and awards the contract. 
  • Resolves purchasing problems between department and vendor.
  • Development of sourcing strategies that support Appleton Manufacturing in cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Engage with Appleton Manufacturing to understand business needs and key supplier selection criteria. Identify, prioritize, & lead manufacturing costs and delivery projects.
  • Work with Appleton Manufacturing to setup a proactive scheduling and planning for external services
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications –

 

  • Proficient in use of computers utilizing Windows based programs as well as being able to learn and utilize SAP as well as legacy systems for every day work requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both, verbal and in writing with good customer relation skills.
  • Pertinent organizational skills necessary to meet deadlines, work under stress and perform in a multitasking role.  
  • Ability to operate independent of daily direction, i.e. "sees what needs to be done and does it." if necessary works overtime.
  • Knowledge about manufacturing processes and ability to read manufacturing documents.
  • A good technical and commercial aptitude with the ability to read drawings and bills of materials is required.
  • Be able to read and understand supplier contracts and make necessary change recommendation to the legal department.
  • Some travel will be required within the NAFTA region to visit and follow up with suppliers with exposure to industrial environments.
  • Minimum of a two to three year experience in the pulp and paper or supporting industry is required. 
  • Certified Professional Buyer (CPPB) with a technical degree.
  • Use of the system functions and corporate procurement tools are a requirement.
  • Need to have strong SAP system knowledge.
