For the Voith US Inc., Application Engineering PM department, we are looking for:

The Senior Application Engineer generates proposals for Voith Paper, Products & Services. The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for technical / sales support for the Paper Machine division’s products and services to the US, Mexican and Canadian customers, helping them understand how those products & services will support their needs. The Senior Application Engineer will develop the knowledge base and skill level of less experienced personnel.




  • Prepare budgetary and firm quotations, as required.
    • 60% of time spent
  • Provide technical support to our Regional Sales Managers in the US and Canada, and our Sales Agency in Mexico in order to help customers understand how Voith Paper can serve their needs.
    • 30% of time spent
  • Perform other duties as assigned
    • 10% of time spent

SUCCESS FACTORS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

Understand Voith Paper products and benefits


  • Communicate with product managers for training on products.
  • Learn details of mechanical and process features of products.
  • Pursue discussion with customers and colleagues to learn how the products will benefit the customer.


Determine which products meet customer needs

  • Prepare cost effective rebuild proposals which meet the customer’s objectives
  • Support sales team with technical presentations


Provide feedback to Voith Product managers

  • Determine product competitiveness, competitors activities



  • Relevant mechanical engineering experience with equipment supplier or engineering experience working in a paper mill
  • Skilled in communications with customers and colleagues with an ability to focus on benefit based approaches / solutions
  • Self-starter who can develop projects independently and build up necessary team / support from a wide range of resources within Voith Paper
  • Traveling is expected from the position (25%) with nights away from home



  • BS or equivalent in mechanical engineering





  • Experience with heavy machinery design (preferably in the paper industry)
  • Understanding of the paper industry with emphasis on the paper machine
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Self-starter, takes initiative


Secondary (Nice to have but not absolutely necessary)

  • Experience with estimating (cost and labor)
  • CAD experience (AutoCAD preferable)
  • Competent in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint
  • A basic knowledge of equipment safety requirements (OSHA)
