Process Control Engineer/Project Manager 
Appleton, WI



To manage process control projects for paper machine rebuilds, upgrades or other projects such as machine optimization, from order placement to final acceptance by the customer. The project manager is responsible for all aspects of the project, including planning, project control, and project coordination. Project goals such as on time completion, staying within budget, achieving all technical and technological requirements, excellent customer handling as well as complying with all Voith standards and guidelines are fundamental requirements.

Assist with process control system configuration, HMI development, and network design.

Support installation, commissioning, and service of these systems.

Provide customer training on these systems.


  • To obtain information needed by the technical areas to start project (assemble internal and external project manuals)
  • To organize internal and external project kick off meetings
  • To prepare the project organization and project resource needs with technical managers
  • To prepare master project time schedule
  • To coordinate the project activities required for successful completion of project
  • To meet project deadlines and stay within project budget
  • To monitor progress of project elements at home location as well as all Voith locations and key suppliers
  • To issue project specifications and directives to all Voith locations and key suppliers
  • To ensure compliance with project specifications and directives by Voith locations and key suppliers
  • To obtain approvals of all required documents by customer and all Voith locations
  • To organize and conduct regular project review meetings with the customer and within Voith
  • To issue monthly project status reports to management
  • To initiate corrective actions when project progress deviates from schedule
  • To prepare customer project status reports with input from all Voith locations and key suppliers
  • To initiate project change notices and project claims as required for project
  • To assist with planning and organizing the erection, start-up and training phases of project
  • To participate in the start-up at the mill as required
  • To maintain project action lists and to coordinate the corrective actions to resolve deficiencies
  • To ensure completion / acceptance certificates are issued and signed by the customer
  • To coordinate resolution of warranty claims submitted by customer
  • To lead negotiations for claims by customer, suppliers, and other Voith locations
  • To prepare and distribute a project closure and project summary report
  • To program process control systems and develop HMI applications
  • To motivate project team members and to foster team spirit within the team
  • To provide assistance to customer as needed




  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of fifteen (15) years of process control experience preferably in the paper industry.
  • Proficient with Rockwell ControlLogix programming and configuration, FTView development and configuration.
  • Ability to use AutoCadE.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Interacts with all parties involved in a given project, including customer, other Voith locations,        engineering companies, contractors, suppliers etc.
