For the Voith US Inc., Operations department, we are looking for:


Manager of Engineering, Automation  
Appleton, WI

 

Summary – Manages and develops the Automation Engineering team and coordinates their activities with the customer externally, and internally with our sales, product management, project management, application engineering, supply chain, manufacturing and quality groups, as required, to maintain the order schedule and budget.  

Responsibilities –

 

  • Technical and personnel management of the Automation Engineering team, including continuous development of personnel and procedures
  • Ensure timely and cost efficient order processing taking into account Voith standards and templates from product management.
  • Support Applications and product management in further development/standardization of Automation engineering solutions.
  • Support service tasks and inquiries with respect to automation engineering and controls
  • Review drawings, schematics, P&ID’s, bills of material and other information such as operating manuals required to fulfill the customer contract.
  • Technical support and know-how for automation solutions related to paper machine and stock preparation equipment for external customers and component suppliers, as well as Voith internal departments; project management, product management, application engineering, supply chain management, manufacturing and quality control.
  • Manage engineering capacity to determine & coordinate design and delivery dates with OTO
  • Optimize business processes by aligning them with adjacent areas with aim of maximizing the economic success of the higher level unit
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone.
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for on-site to review existing equipment, attend meetings, and/or assist with service work.

 

Major Challenges:

  • Guiding and tracking multiple projects concurrently.
  • Balancing competing priorities from external and internal customers.
  • Managing limited resources to ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.

 

 

Authority:

  • Check and release drawings, bills of materials and similar documents
  • Design of automation & controls engineering solutions
  • Assign group members & 3rd party resources tasks to fulfill order contracts
  • Make independent decisions in regards to order processing.

 

Interaction:

  • Communication with all departments at Voith Paper – Appleton, and with other Voith Paper locations (domestic and international)
  • Direct communication with customers, or indirectly through project managers.
  • Communication with outside suppliers and engineering companies.

 

Qualifications –

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar experience
  • at least 10 years of experience in the design & manufacturing of automation for large machinery or equipment
  • at least 2 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry
  • ability to travel domestically and internationally occasionally
  • Lead group of automation engineers and/or designers to complete controls design of projects.
  • Conduct Employee Dialogue and Goal Agreement meetings annually.
  • Professional and disciplinary leadership of the directly assigned group members.
  • Motivation and individual support of the directly assigned group members.
  • Professional guidance / definition of the task of the group members and result control.
  • Performance evaluation of the directly assigned group members.
  • Group member job planning (capacity management) in coordination with project management.
  • Develop flexible capacity by working without outside automation companies to support our needs
