Summary –

The Application Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the sales organization, including preparing quotations.

 

Responsibilities –

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Reach the sales and profit requirements, according to business line targets.  Specifically ensure the TDC and performance guarantees according to plan are not exceed.
  • Apply the correct sizing and estimating for the quotations.  Achieve high accuracy of pre-calculation vs. actual figures.

 

Knowledge:

  • Develop and maintain a general understanding of all Voith Fiber Systems products and process technology.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the primary products.
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of Voith Application Engineering guidelines.
  • Obtain and maintain knowledge of competitors’ products and processes.

 

Quote Creation:

  • Determine customer needs, problems and requirements and find a solution (system or single machine) to fulfill/solve it.
  • Define and size the required machines and systems according to the Voith Engineering Directives.
  • Develop accurate, competitive and appropriate quotations in a timely manner and develop accurate and detailed cost estimates; i.e. CalcEx and Pricing Template.
  • Configure quotations in CAMOS based on Standard BlueLine products according to the Global Sourcing Rules as best fit for the customer.
  • Maintain a well-organized quotation file with accurate and current Sizing Sheets, Balances, Correspondences, Equipment Specifications, Estimates including a single version of CalcEx, etc. at the appropriate revision level.
  • Work with Product Management, Sales, Standardization, Process Technology, Engineering and other departments to assemble the quote, warranties, product sheets and other required information.
  • Assist Sales (inside and with mill visits) to help determine customer needs and promote Voith products and technology.
  • Work with Product Managers and Standardization to improve quote texts, cover letters, application criteria, drawings and brochures.
  • Support (participate) in the start-up and optimization of systems sold as required to maintain a thorough understanding of the process.
  • If required present at customer site or conferences.
  • Cooperation with colleagues of Projects, P&S, FRS, DV and other divisions.
  • Constantly make suggestions to improvement processes and interfaces between the departments.
  • Work out customer specific solutions within the given frame parameters without technical risks.

 

Qualifications –

  • Minimum BS Chemical, Mechanical or Degree in Paper Science.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to talk technically with colleagues, both national and international, and sales and engineering organization.
  • Must be professional, accurate and reliable.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, ability to learn other programs.
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential data.
  • Paper mill experience will be advantageous but not necessary.
