Director of Project and Order Management

Summary
The Director of Project Management will be responsible for managing the Project Manager (PM) and Order Manager (OM) team. They will manage several PM's on rebuild orders of existing machines (Paper Machine/Automation / FES) as well as larger Capital Projects orders from project conception to completion of the machine / component warranties. The projects will be completed on time,within budget and fulfillment of all commercial, technical, and technological requirements. The Director leads the team of both the project and order managers to performs all project planning,project control, and project coordination. A strong emphasis must be placed on leading the team to drive down warranty costs, maintain as-sold profitability, and continuously drive accounts receivable to zero. The idea is that the project is executed flawlessly so that we can get additional orders from the customer. The Director role is seen as a major contributor to the safety initiatives at ourlocation, along with supporting monthly contributions to the weekly safety reporting program(eVAPs).
Responsibilities
- Mentors, coaches, and guides the PM's as unique project opportunities arise, ensuring both a quick and professional response, along with appropriate communication to all internal and external stakeholders
- Focuses the team on continuous improvement efforts and routinely implements process initiatives
- Supports the PM's by joining the project Steering Committee's and maintaining a strong relationship with the customer executive level (both mill and corporate)
- Implements a rigorous professional PM environment utilizing the PMP certification (or equivalent)
- Works in conjunction with the Finance team to forecast monthly and yearly revenue projections, and then leads the PM team to execute to those plans
- Co-hosts the Claim Committee along with Commercial Management to ensure appropriate claim responses as well as strategies to minimize costs to Voith
- Organizes and conducts the recurring Order Progress review, Rebuild Review, and Internal Project Steering Committee meetings
- Along with the Quality Manager, reviews the monthly quality costs and reports out to the management team
- Guides the PM's to initiate corrections when the project progress strays from schedule
- Ensures PM's initiate project change notices and project claims as required for the project
- Drives PM's to complete project on time and close project commercially as fast as possible
- Ensures that the PM's document completion/acceptance certificates signed by the customer
- Limits own direct project responsibilities to focus efforts on empowering team to accomplish project work
- Lead / assist in the negotiations for back-charge claims together with Regional Sales Managers or Mgmt.
- Assigns orders to Project Managers to balance workload, utilizing the teams fullest capacities and ensures that the time reporting maintains the target 70% + direct time utilization rate
- Supports and champions internal Voith initiatives
- Continuously challenges team and self to grow both personally and professionally, leading by example
- Drives a rigorous Lessons Learned culture using and/or creating all necessary tools
- Gives challenging and developmental feedback to PM/OM team where necessary
- Highlights 'wins' with team to ensure frequent and appropriate recognition
Qualifications
- Proficient in use of computers utilizing Windows based programs as well as being able to learn and utilize legacy systems as well as deep SAP know-how for every day work requirements
- Very strong communication skills, both, verbal and in writing with excellent customer relation skills.Pertinent organizational skills necessary to meet deadlines, work under stress and perform in a multitasking role
- Motivate the project team members and to foster team spirit within the team
- Provide assistance to the customer as needed
- Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop employees
- A good mechanical aptitude with the ability to read mechanical drawings and bills of materials.Travel will be required within the NAFTA / EMEA region to visit Voith and Customer sites and follow up with suppliers with exposure to industrial environments
- Minimum of a five year experience in the pulp and paper or supporting industry is required
- Scheduling experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Controls, Chemical, Civil)
