Working Student (m|f|d): Fracture mechanics assessment of turbo gear units
Job ID 71795 | Location Aachen | Duration 6 - 12 months
Topic
Crack initiation/propagation is a notorious phenomenon in the application of gearboxes with extremely high angular speeds. This can significantly reduce the lifetime of the system if not ending in complete failure, here fracture. To avoid such tragedies, (possible) cracks and their growth are experimentally detected and later numerically determined before application. The latter procedure is mainly established deploying finite element methods (FEM) to compute and analyze the stresses and strains acting upon cracks.
Your role is to support us in FE simulation of Voith turbo gear units under consideration of fracture mechanics. Reliable modeling of cracks as well as further development of Crack Analysis Program (CrackAP) belongs to this position as well.
Your profile
- Master’s/Bachelor’s student (m/f/d) of Mechanical/Civil Engineering or related fields.
- Solid background in Continuum Mechanics/FEMs.
- (Highly) experienced in ANSYS (Workbench/Mechanical).
- Good command of programming (MATLAB).
- Keen to communicate and discuss technical subjects.
- Passion for huge components and gearboxes.
- Independent, reliable and motivated.
- High level of English or German proficiency.
We offer
- A chance to apply FEM in fracture mechanics.
- A deep insight into Voith turbo gear units.
