For the Voith Paper, Shop department, we are looking for:
 

Assembly Technician 
Springfield, OR 
 

This is a 2nd shift position that will have a training period on 1st shift. Once the training period is over the employee will move to 2nd shift.

 

General Responsibilities: 

 

Disassemble, reassemble, and machine paper machine components according to blueprints, memos, sketches, match marks and/or knowledge of machine construction, using hand tools and power tools.

Job is very heavy in physical demands, requiring a rare push/pull of 150 pounds, although mechanical lifting assistance is available.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

 

  • Reviews work orders and/or blueprints, sketches and diagrams, to determine work required.
  • Disassemble and assemble components.
  • Inspect and measure components with precision tools and instruments to ensure they are within specifications (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges)
  • Cleans parts with solvents, steam cleaner, hot tank, sand blaster and/or caustic soda.
  • Prime or paints parts by hand or with spray gun.
  • Operate forklift, overhead crane (up to 80 tons) or pickup truck to move parts and components.
  • Set up and balance rolls to required tolerances established by work order, supervisor and/or engineer.
  • Make balancing decisions on rolls, based on experience and available information.
  • Complete inspection forms and reports accurately.
  • Look for improvements in process, implement lean manufacturing principles, and provide information to supervisor for implementation.
  • Clean work area and maintain equipment during shift.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must possess hand tools and tool box necessary for job, and provide itemized list to employer for insurance purposes. Minimum tool list will be provided by employer. (Employees are responsible to insure their own tools).
  • Must possess valid driver's license and applicable insurance.
  • Must demonstrate ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches and work orders and mechanical abilities (i.e., millwrighting, machinist, automotive background).
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must demonstrate ability to assemble and disassemble rolls, parts, and machine components.
  • Operate small machine tools.
  • Deadlines/shift work/flexibility: Meet production deadlines; may change or rotate shifts. Flexibility required in job duties and hours.
  • Exercises high level of judgment for safety awareness and response to emergencies and urgent job demands.
  • Safety equipment required: Use prescribed safety procedures and equipment per specific job requirements.  Employer will provide protective clothing required to be worn on the job.
